How do I setup CSS 1.4 to open in Microsoft Edge?

Internet Explorer (IE) will soon no longer be supported by Microsoft.  As a result, clients who currently use IE to access CSS 1.4 will need to switch to Microsoft's Edge browser. There are two methods 1) Individual user Edge setup and 2) Local group policy.

Note: Constituent services users  (Casework/Services) will immediately be 100% compatible with Edge or Google Chrome unless they also use the Mail area of the CSS to edit/create letters. Those users can skip to Setting up a Microsoft Edge CSS Shortcut below. 

Method 1: Individual User Edge Setup using IE Mode:

NOTE: Using the individual Edge setup, all users will need to repeat the below process every 30-days.

1. Download and/or open Microsoft Edge browser.

2. In Edge's address bar, enter "your office specific URL" for the CSS (if unsure please email support@iconstituent.com.  NOTE: You will need this URL later so copy it now.

3. Click on Settings.

4. From settings, select Default Browser.

5. The Default Brower settings opens, ensure the Let Internet Explorer open sites in Microsoft Edge setting in the Internet Explorer compatibility section is selected.

6. Make sure the Allow sites to be reloaded in Internet Explorer mode is set to Allow and then click Restart to refresh your browser.

7. Next click Add in Internet Explorer mode pages.

8. An Add a page dialog opens, enter the CSS's URL that you used above (if copied, paste) and then click Add.

9. The URL will display in the Internet Explorer mode pages section.

10. It is important to note that these settings will expire after 30-days and must be re entered by user each time.

11. Lastly, check and/or set Internet Options.  From the Windows Search enter Internet Options and select Internet Options from the pop-up list.

12. The Internet Properties dialog opens, click the Security tab, then click the Local intranet zone, and lastly click the Sites button..

13. The Local intranet dialog opens, click the Advanced button.

14. In the Add this website to the zone field, enter the CSS's URL that you used above (if copied, paste); however, this time remove the "login.aspx" from the end.  Click the Close button.

15. From the Internet Properties dialog, click the Custom Level button.

16. From the Reset to: drop-down, select Low.

17. The Security Settings - local intranet zone dialog opens, scroll down to Download unsigned ActiveX controls and select Enable.

18. Scroll down to Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe and select Enable.

19. Scroll down to Allow webpages to use redirected protocols for active content and select Enable.

20. Scroll down to Display mixed content and select Enable.

21. Click OK button.

22. A Warning! dialog will open, click Yes.

23.Uncheck the Enable Protected Mode (requires restarting IE) checkbox.

24. Click OK.

25. Now move to the next section below - Setting up a Microsoft Edge CSS Shortcut.

Setting up a Microsoft Edge CSS Shortcut:

1. From the Windows Search, type Microsoft Edge into the search.

2. From the popup list, right-click on Microsoft Edge and select Create shortcut.

3. Edge shortcut should appear on your desktop.

4. RIght-click on Edge shortcut and select Properties.

5. The Microsoft Edge Properties dialog opens, select the Shortcut tab.

6. Click in the Target field and place your cursor at the end of the existing text "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\msedge.exe", add a SPACE after the end ", and enter the CSS's URL that you used above (if copied, paste).

7. Click the General tab and replace Microsoft Edge with CSS in the Name field.

8. Click OK.

9. From your desktop click on the new CSS Edge icon and verify the CSS opens.

10.  VERY IMPORTANT - When browser opens DO NOT click the blue Open in Microsoft Edge button; however, you can close out the toolbar by clicking the red X located on the right side of the toolbar.

Method 2: Local Group Policy for Edge Setup using IE Mode:

In order to provide a better experience for office users who create and edit letters in the Mail area of the CSS, we recommend that you set the CSS is set to open in Edge in IE mode via a local group policy.  The benefit of a local policy is it does not expire after 30-days and allows for direct print from Mail. Note: To perform this step user must have Administrative privilege's. For assistance with the group policy, please contact your IT staff to assist. If they have any questions, please have them reach out to support@iconstituent.com.

IT staff with appropriate privilege's can enable by following the below steps:

1. From Windows search, type Group Policy and select Edit Group Policy from the pop-up list.
2. The Local Group Policy Editor dialog opens, select User Configuration and then select Administrative Templates.
3. From Administrative Templates, select Windows Components.
4. From Windows Components, select Microsoft Edge.
5. From the Microsoft Edge options in right panel, double-click on Send all intranet sits to Internet Explorer 11.
6. A dialog opens, select the Enabled radio button.
7. Click OK to save the policy settings. Once policy has been created the CSS will be fully compatible with Microsoft’s Edge browser. 
8. Reboot your computer.
9. Now go up to the section above called Setting up a Microsoft Edge CSS Shortcut to setup a desktop shortcut for the user.
10. VERY IMPORTANT - When browser opens DO NOT click the blue Open in Microsoft Edge button; however, you can close out the toolbar by clicking the red X located on the right side of the toolbar.
