How to find the URL of an Image

If you want to obtain the full URL of an image, keep in mind that when you view the image after clicking on the filename from the file list, the URL you see in the browser address window is not the URL of the image on the live website, but in the edit site. To obtain the public URL of the image, right click on the image and select “View Image” or “View Image in New tab”. The image will open in a new browser tab or window.

Click into the address field in the browser and make the following corrections:

  1. Change the “https” part to “http”
  2. Delete the “edit-“ part from the URL and click on the Enter key on your keyboard. Then copy the URL if you want to need to use it.

For example, let’s say that you have the following URL of an image after right clicking on it:

https://edit-smith.house.gov/sites/source.congress-dev.house.gov/files/wysiwyg_uploaded/Tulips.jpg

Make the following changes as mentioned earlier and you should have the following URL:

http://smith.house.gov/sites/source.congress-dev.house.gov/files/wysiwyg_uploaded/Tulips.jpg

Copy the new URL and paste it into the address field to ensure that it works.
